New Goldsmith General Electric Theater Kickstarter Achieved!
Leigh Phillips
announced two new Goldsmith episode scores funded via the Kickstarter service.
For this campaign the focus will be on two highly contrasting scores. Firstly, "The
Legend Who Walks Like a Man", an energetic and comedic episode featuring a
larger-than-life performance from Ernest Borgnine. The second score is to record
a dark, militaristic, and dramatic accompaniment written only for brass and
percussion: "Hitler's Secret". The kickstarter was quickly funded by
devoted Goldsmith fans in late November. But fans who are interested in more of
these wonderful new recordings of these rare early Goldsmith career moments can
continue to fund the project for helping future volumes.

JERRY GOLDSMITH Un orfèvre à Hollywood
Hollow Man 2 CD Set From Intrada!
Intrada
present the complete presentation of Hollow Man and what appears to be
Jerry Goldsmith's longest score at over 90 minutes. Plus a second disc of
alternates at over 45 minutes. This stunning set presents what I would say is
Jerry Goldsmith's last big score. It is a huge action thriller work with a
massive orchestral force beautifully recorded by Bruce Botnick at Abbey Road
revealing incredible instrument detail. A truly mammoth release. Of course
Goldsmith had a great relationship with director Paul Verhoeven over 3 key films
and wrote some of his best work. The enthusiasm and love is evident throughout
these works. Hollow Man was an update of the invisible man thriller with
cutting edge computer generated effects and featured Kevin Bacon and Elisabeth
Shue.

Rambo Scores - LP Box set From Quartet Records!
Quartet
Records present the expanded Jerry Goldsmith Rambo scores on a
spectacular 5 LP box set. The set features coloured 180 gram vinyl, detailed
booklet notes with gatefold jackets. Doug Fake at Intrada, who of course have
the scores in complete form on CD sets, provided the mixes and these were
mastered by Chris Malone. First Blood was apparently released at the
wrong speed on the Intrada CD set so it is expected this set will feature that
score fixed. Note the LPs do not include the extra music that featured on the
Intrada CD sets.

Rudy - Deluxe Edition CD From Varese!

Goldsmith At 20th Vol. 5 – Music For Television (1968-1975)!
La-La
Land Records present a 2 CD set of Goldsmith television music from the 20th
Century Fox archives. A number of these scores were presented in part on the
2004 Fox Box from Varese but this new presentation includes improved sound,
extra music as well as a exciting previously unreleased music. A Tree Grows
In Brooklyn is the highlight now being presented in stereo and fully
expanded. Also, Anna And The King gets a lot more music. New scores are
for the failed pilots Only In America (aka Best Of Times) and
Prudence And The Chief. For this Goldsmith re-purposed this theme later in
Rio Lobo. Also included is the earlier Nick Quarry failed pilot,
Room 222 and A Girl Named Sooner.

audio files as well as cover and detailed booklet notes by The Goldsmith

Major Orlovsky and Sarah's Laughter. If you haven't been apart of the

Matinee - Expanded Release From Intrada Records!
Intrada
announce an expanded presentation of Jerry Goldsmith's light-hearted score to
the 1993 Joe Dante period comedy drama Matinee. A homage of sorts to
Sci-Fi B movie maker William Castle with a likeable John Goodman as the larger
than life filmmaker Laurence Woolsey.
Goldsmith's score focuses on the younger cast and the teen relationship drama,
including some light comedy and jazz elements, plus a nod to the Cuban Missile
Crisis setting. The original Varese CD release missed out on a handful of extra
music cues but a brief military themed march for the build up of missile
hardware in the town, ready to launch if the unimaginable happened, has been a
firm favourite and must have for hardcore Goldsmith fans.

New Kickstarter To Record Rare Goldsmith Scores From The General Electric
Theater!
Composer, Orchestrator and Score Reconstruction Genius Leigh Phillips is seeking
your assistance in breathing new life into several short scores, from the pen of
legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith, in the form of an ongoing project
concentrating on his work for the General Electric Theater TV series
(1959-62).
To keep contributions (and costs) at a manageable level for our backers, the
plan is to run a series of mini-Kickstarter campaigns, with the purpose of
recording each of the individual episode scores as they meet their respective
funding goals. Using this approach, we will simply record as many Goldsmith
scores as backers choose to support, and if at least four Goldsmith scores for
the series are successfully funded, we will also make available a special
Stretch Goal to fund the manufacturing and distribution costs of a physical CD
album. Whichever scenario presents itself; contributors will find themselves in
possession of new, pristine, recordings of some of Jerry Goldsmith’s most
colourful and engaging TV scoring (each half hour episode contains between 5-10
mins of music), in lossless WAV format, complete with detailed PDF liner notes
for each “digital single” release (written by The Goldsmith Odyssey podcast
producer and co-host, Yavar Moradi).
The first score that we hope to record is the evocative The Bar Mitzvah of Major Orlovsky (approx. 8 mins in total). This touching story, featuring a wonderful
lead performance from Ernest Borgnine and contains one of Goldsmith’s most
beautiful Jewish-flavoured melodies.

recording at the

New Book - Jerry Goldsmith Companion: Volume 1 and 2!
From CF Publishing
For over 70 years, and even now
almost two decades after his death in 2004, the name of Jerry Goldsmith has been
an iconic addition to a host of science fiction movies, action films, thrillers,
war movies and other genres, as well as television projects throughout the 1960s
and 1970s, radio work, concert compositions and even familiar movie studio logo
music and commercials. Goldsmith’s name guaranteed one thing—that the music from
these projects would take on its own life as a virtuoso, involving composition,
a work of art of its own that could continue to grip and involve listeners year
after year—often when the film or television project itself had been long
forgotten.
Jerry Goldsmith’s scores for classic films like Planet of the Apes, Patton,
Papillon, Chinatown, The Omen, Alien, Poltergeist and Basic Instinct are part of
the DNA of these films—music that helped define them and push them into the
forefront of our cultural consciousness. But the composer’s efforts on other
films—The Blue Max, The Chairman, Capricorn One, Star Trek – The Motion Picture,
First Blood, The Secret of NIMH, Under Fire, Legend, Total Recall, L.A.
Confidential, The Sum of All Fears and dozens of others—stand up as influential,
lasting creations as well.
Now for the first time in the U.S. Goldsmith’s career and music is explored in a
titanic, 2-volume publication by Jeff Bond, author of The Fantasy Worlds of
Irwin Allen, Danse Macabre: 25 Years of Danny Elfman and Tim Burton, The Music
of Star Trek and other books. Over three years in the making and boasting a
manuscript of over 330,000 words - OVER 1,000 pages - The Jerry Goldsmith
Companion covers the composer’s earliest projects, including radio work
involving Ray Bradbury, William Conrad, Aldous Huxley and Christopher Isherwood;
Goldsmith’s groundbreaking work on live television with directors like Franklin
J. Schaffner and John Frankenheimer; his pivotal work on the TV programs The
Twilight Zone and Thriller, his years under contract at 20th Century Fox where
he wrote classic scores such as The Sand Pebbles, Planet of the Apes and Patton;
his gritty 1970s television and TV-movie work and his Oscar-winning score for
The Omen; his conflicts with directors like Otto Preminger on In Harm’s Way and
Ridley Scott on Alien; his struggle to create the monumental music for Star
Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979; his symphonic fantasy and action movies of the
early 1980s like Poltergeist, The Final Conflict, Night Crossing and First
Blood; his exploration of electronics throughout his career and his constant
evolution from year to year and decade to decade, and his emergence as one of
the only composers of his generation to adapt and remain relevant and in demand
for major motion pictures up until the final days of his career.
With never-before-published photographs and artwork, music samples and
interviews both archival and new (with fresh insights from David Newman, John
Mauceri, Christopher Young, Michael Giacchino, Christophe Beck, John Ottman,
Ludwig Goransson, Richard Kraft, Peyton Reed, Conrad Pope, Douglass Fake, Carlos
Rafael Rivera, Malcolm McNab, Jeff Russo and others), this massive two-volume
set finally puts into perspective the work and career of one of the most
important musical artists of the 20th Century.
