Goldsmith and
The LSO Nashville Concert
Jerry Goldsmith will be conducting the London
Symphony Orchestra in
Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday April 28 2002 at 6:00 p.m.
London
LSO Concert Update
The LSO have confirmed further details for
the London, Barbican concert next year. The concert will be on
Thursday, May 2nd. The provisional programme for the concert
includes music from Star Trek: First Contact, The Last
Castle, Poltergeist, Mulan and The Edge.

Goldsmith In Glasgow 2002!
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra have announced
a Jerry Goldsmith concert on May 10, 2002 at 7:30pm.
Decca Replace Faulty Last Castle CD
The Decca Music Group are to replace the faulty
Last Castle CD. A number of collectors have contacted
Decca at their website's email address and complained. The following
response was received from Decca UK:-
"The Last Castle's master has now
been replaced by another and all the markets have been notified
of the discrepancy. New stock will be available from the 15th
November, and you should be able to obtain a replacement from
the retailer at that time. However, if you wish you could instead
send the disc to Decca, and we will forward a replacement".

Collectors outside the UK should contact Decca
at their website to arrange return and replacement
of the disc or contact the original retailer whom they purchased
it from.

TREK X: Nemesis
The TrekWeb have posted news that Jerry Goldsmith
has been confirmed for the 10th Star Trek franchise movie. However,
the project remains a distant 2002 assignment for the time being.

Goldsmith in London 2002!
Tentative plans are underway for Jerry Goldsmith
to again conduct the London Symphony Orchestra in a concert of
his music at the Barbican Centre, London in early May 2002. Check
the

for ticket ordering and further details nearer the time.
Varese Announce Damien: Omen II - Deluxe Edition
Varese
Sarabande complete the Omen trilogy with a spectacular release of
the original soundtrack from the 2nd movie of the horror trilogy.
Varese have managed to include the original film soundtrack for the
first time along with the well known album re-recording. Expect the deluxe packaged
disc around December 4th.
Sum
Of All Fears
Internet sources claiming that the forth coming thriller
The Sum Of All Fears was not to be released have thankfully
proven to be completely erroneous and the original story fully
retracted. The hotly anticipated event movie is scheduled for
summer 2002 with composer Jerry Goldsmith working on the score
during the remainder of this year and recording scheduled for
first quarter 2002.
Man
From U.N.C.L.E CD
A label called Harkit Records have posted details
of a new CD of original music from the Man From U.N.C.L.E
TV series supposedly featuring Goldsmith's original contributions.
However, Hugo Montengro is also credited on the album. Wait for

Man From FSM!
Announced for immediate ordering is a Goldsmith
classic from the Ray Bradbury story The Illustrated Man.

Goldsmith
Drops Domestic Disturbance!
Jerry Goldsmith is no longer going to score Domestic
Disturbance. The composer produced some demo cues for the
director but they did not like them. Source close to the movie say the were
after a score in the style of Basic Instinct. Mark Mancina replaced the composer for this
assignment.
Decca
To Release The Last Castle
The high profile
Decca label has announced they will release Jerry Goldsmith's
score to The Last Castle October 16th. The album features
about 30 minutes of score plus two source cues. Mark Mckenzie, Jerry
Goldsmith's orchestrator wrote some additional music for the film due to a very
tight post production schedule but it won't feature on the album.
Goldsmith Remembers
Jerry Goldsmith has dedicated a piece of music
in memory of those who lost their lives in New York and Washington
last week. The piece titled "September 11, 2001,"
is from his new score to The Last
Castle and was performed at the Hollywood Bowl by the Bowl Orchestra
on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September.
Goldsmith completed his work on The Last Castle late last
week.

Announce Morituri
FSM has announced for immediate ordering this
1965 score for the WWII thriller starring Marlon Brando set aboard
a German supply ship. Released many years ago by the infamous
Tsunami label this official disc from the Fox archive has the
complete score at 42 minutes and benefits from being mastered
in stereo (the previous disc was mono). Order now from FSM.
The
Omen & The Final Conflict Deluxe Editions From Varese
Varese has announced two new titles in their
DE series of soundtrack re-issues. The expanded and newly re-mastered
albums for both The Omen and The Final Conflict.
Varese will deliver a re-mastered disc with most of the missing cues
left off the first album along with new artwork and in depth
liner notes. The Final Conflict will also carry extra
music and improved presentation but the best news of all will
be the promise of a dramatically improved sound from the decidedly
rough sounding first album. Expect both discs in early October.

Of The Apes - Budget Re-issue
With the current interest in all things Ape a
minor label has resurrected the original soundtrack album based
on the Intrada version but re-sequenced? Stick with the superb
Varese Sarabande complete score version.

Jerry Goldsmith Concert - Southern California
There will be a Free concert with the Henry Mancini
Institute Orchestra on August 11th. Goldsmith will be guest conductor
at the Wadsworth Theatre.
Star
Trek The Motion Picture SE DVD
The
highly anticipated SE DVD of the first Star Trek movie will be
bundled with a whole host of extras including an audio commentary
that will feature among others Jerry Goldsmith. The documentary on
the making of the film will include a discussion on the score as well as a
chance to hear the Enterprise sequence with the original un-used music. Expect the feature packed 2 disc set with
its new footage, improved special effects and sound mix November
6th.
The Sum Of All Fears -
Exciting News From Monte Carlo
Jerry Goldsmith revealed some interesting news
at his recent concert in Monte Carlo. The most intriguing project
mentioned was the new Jack Ryan thriller starring Ben Affleck
- The Sum Of All Fears, directed by Phil Alden Robinson.
The composer spoke of a new direction for the music compared
to the previous movies. Also mentioned is a possible Opera by
friend Ray Bradbury on the Moby Dick story but set in a Sci-Fi
environ.

Announce New Goldsmith Disc
FSM has announced a new disc for release sometime
in June. The ultra rare and previously unreleased music for 1973's
Ace Eli and Rodger Of The Skies. This story of Stunt Pilot
and his relationship with his son was notable for being written
by a young Steven Spielberg. Also included is music from the
TV series Room 222. Check the FSM site for online ordering June 8th.

In Monte Carlo
Jerry Goldsmith will conduct the Monte Carlo
Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of his music for film on
July 22nd 2001.

Telarc's commercial version of last years SACD

Outland Remastered
WB France
has re-issued the original 1981 album
to the Peter Hyam's Sci-Fi Thriller Outland on CD. Nothing
new apart from a remastered source and album notes. GNP Crescendo released the
score on CD with Capricorn One some years ago.

on Disney CD Now!
Disney
has released a CD soundtrack featuring the original music from
the various rides at the new California Adventure Theme Park.
This disc includes Goldsmith's spectacular 'Soarin' piece timed at 4:43. The
disc can be ordered at the following link and costs $20 plus
shipping.

Superman
SE DVD Reveals Goldsmith First Composer
Richard Donner's commentary on the new Superman
DVD revealed that Jerry Goldsmith was in line to score the movie
first but due to scheduling difficulties during 77-78 had to
pass on the assignment. John Williams also nearly missed out
for the same reason and the project again was offered to Goldsmith.
But further scheduling prevented Goldsmith working on the film
and Williams was finally able to score the film.
Legend
SE DVD Not Cancelled!
The much delayed special edition DVD release
of Ridley Scott's Legend will be released. Universal
posted a confusing statement to DVD retailers saying the title
had been discontinued and therefore cancelled. It turns out this
was to try and put a stop to the thousands of back orders being
placed with Universal for this 2 disc set. Universal say the
special edition DVD, featuring the restored version of the film
with Jerry Goldsmith's score will be released (at some point)!
Rio
Lobo CD
Confirmed! Prometheus will be releasing Jerry
Goldsmith's score to Howard Hawk's last western, Rio Lobo.
Previously unreleased, the master has now been approved by the composer
so expect the CD sometime in June.
Saturn
Nomination For Hollow Man
The Saturn Awards, focussing on science fiction
and fantasy film making, have nominated Jerry Goldsmith's 2000
score for Hollow Man. Winner to be announced in June.
Update: Winner was James Horner for The Grinch.
Telarc
Goldsmith SACD Demonstrator Delayed
Telarc,
responsible for many SACD releases, recently posted an ad on
their website to order a commercial version of the Philips SACD/DSD
Jerry Goldsmith Demonstrator on 24/4/01! The link then quickly
disappeared and we assumed the worst. However, fear not Telarc
say the 2 channel CD and SACD version will be available as soon
as a number of production issues have been rectified.
Now due end of May
The
Last Castle
Soundtrack Magazine have posted a new but distant
assignment for Jerry Goldsmith. The Last Castle (previously
just The Castle), due for for a limited release December
2001 and wider January 2002. The film comes from Dream Works
and stars Robert Redford as a court marshalled 3 star
General. Imprisoned in a maximum security facility, he rallies
the inmates to revolt against the corrupt warden. The $60 million
action drama starts filming in March.

Bradbury & Goldsmith
Ray Bradbury was in San Diego recently and talked
of his friendship with Jerry Goldsmith. He also revealed that
he is to work with the composer on the re-recording of their
Christus Apollo 1969 cantata. This is the planned second disc
of the Philips SACD/DSD Multi Channel CD project started last
year to demonstrate the new technology. As reported previously,
Bradbury confirmed that Anthony Hopkins would narrate. The original
being narrated by Charlton Heston. The recording will take place
at Abbey Road Studios, London in July.

Came A Spider CD
Varese Sarabande have announced they will release
a score album for the much delayed thriller Along Came A Spider
around the 3rd of April. The movie is set to be released on the
6th of April.

Music Critics Jury Award For Hollow Man
The Film Music Critics Jury made up of writers of film music on the web have
awarded Hollow Man the best score for 2000. James Newton
Howard won best composer for 2000, Goldsmith came in 4th. For

Announce The Stripper/Nick Quarry
FSM has announced for immediate ordering Jerry
Goldsmith's first big screen collaboration with the late Franklin
J Schaffner. The Stripper has appeared as a boot from
Tsunami some years ago but this official release is of course
much improved with deluxe packaging and a good stereo source.
Also appearing is 11 minutes from the curiously titled Nick
Quarry which turns out to be an obscure TV pilot demo score
from the same era which never made it to syndication.

Race
Due to poor health the
composer will not be scoring the remake of the classic hit comedy
Its A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Elmer Bernstein scored it but
had his work rejected and replaced by John Powell.

It appears the rumoured London
concert at the Royal Albert Hall has now been confirmed! Date is
Thursday June 28th. The composer will again be conducting the London
Symphony Orchestra. Visit

Confirmed! The new R2 DVD release of Papillon
includes an isolated 5.1 score!! The disc was released December
4th. Check the

for details. Also, French label Universal Jazz Music is to re-issue
the soundtrack album to Papillon in 2001 with re-mastered
sound and deluxe packaging.
