Varese
Talks Up Nemesis Release
Varese Sarabande have whetted the appetites of
Jerry Goldsmith Star Trek fans proclaiming it to be greatest
Star Trek music since the 79 classic. Soundtrack due November
26th with hopefully a generous playing time!
"When it comes to STAR TREK music, Jerry Goldsmith rules
the galaxy. The epic tale of NEMESIS has inspired what may be
Goldsmiths greatest STAR TREK score since his best-selling
STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. The score for NEMESIS is as epic
as anything the legendary composer has ever written. Even the
musicians themselves gave Goldsmith repeated ovations during
the recording sessions and a triumphant round of applause on
completion. This is unquestionably the most aggressive STAR TREK
score ever. Ingeniously dark textures are mixed with action music
that soars to apocalyptic heights. Classic Goldsmith!"
Papillon Now

Unconfirmed
Varese Goldsmith Titles
Ford Thaxton has made some recent comments concerning
future releases by Varese Sarabande, much to their annoyance.
FT has stated as fact that among a plethora of rare titles both
Magic (A Club Release) and The Great Train Robbery
(Deluxe Edition) will be released at some point by the label.
Some soundtrack dealers are already listing these titles, but
Varese stress these titles are not confirmed and nobody should
place order's for these titles with them or any other vendor.
For the time being they just don't exist! I don't doubt Mr FT
is on the money considering his knowledge of the film music business,
but I tend to agree with Varese's stance on this one. It would
have been far better to hear from them when they are good and
ready to release these titles, which may not be for sometime
to come now.
The
Buzz on The Swarm
After Prometheus revealed a mystery Jerry Goldsmith
release sometime in 2002 and a tantalising clue on the soundtrack
website to what it might be, Mr Thaxton couldn't hold back any
more and recently revealed the news that an official soundtrack
CD to The Swarm will be released before the year is out
and runs to 75 minutes!

ahead to the 2003 concert season. With the Spanish concert already
reported we also have news from Helsinki that a further concert

dates and venues will also follow.

conducting the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra on Nov. 19, 2002 in Tokyo and
Nov. 21, 2002 in Yokohama. Program details yet to be finalised.

End
Of A Ponytail
It's official! Jerry Goldsmith has changed
his hair style and the trademark ponytail of the last decade
has gone! This new picture taken by D'Lynn Waldron and used here
with her kind permission shows the composer in a new cooler look
minus the trademark Pony Tail. Concert appearances just won't
be the same without it!
For more pictures of the composer and other leading Hollywood
film music names as well as information on writing music for
motion picture please visit D'Lynn's impressive site at www.dlynnwaldron.com.
The Harkit
Records Affair - No Man From U.N.C.L.E. CD!
Harkit
Records' Man From U.N.C.L.E. CD, announced last year,
and featuring Jerry Goldsmith's original music from the series,
is now definitely not going ahead. Although the title
disappeared from their website it recently re-appeared and there
was hope that the CD would finally get a release date. However,
a spokesperson for Harkit said "We've tried every conceivable
means of re-mastering and its just not good enough quality to
go forward". However, Harkit haven't given up on the music
of Jerry Goldsmith, and are in the process of negotiating a release
of an alternative Goldsmith title! Stay tuned.

and is an orchestral hymn with lyrics in Latin and sung by soprano
Shana Blake Hill of the Los Angeles Opera. The song version appears
over the end credits and is sung by Yolanda Adams, the Grammy-winning
gospel/crossover artist with lyrics by Paul Williams and produced
by Trevor Horn. The album also includes two further songs.

Health
Concerns
Concerns over Jerry Goldsmith's health has again
made film music headlines after an MC at the replacement Nashville
concert with the LSO, made the shock statement that the composer
is undergoing a course of Chemotherapy. Not surprisingly, details
have not been made public and we should respect the composer's
privacy with regard to such matters. However, its important to
emphasise that this is not life threatening, so much so that
the composer completed tasks on The Sum Of All Fears and
as scheduled, is to begin work on Star Trek X: Nemesis
in a couple of months time. If further details are made public
I will of course post an update.
For the time being we wish him well.
The
Sum Of All Scores
As most now know Jerry Goldsmith's score for
The Sum Of All Fears was completed a couple of
weeks ago and director, Phil Alden Robinson has proclaimed it
to be absolutely terrific! Details are now being finalised for
a soundtrack album in a couple of weeks. I hope to have more
news from The Sum Of All Fears soon!
LSO
Concerts US/UK Replacements
The LSO concerts in the US and UK are all to
be conducted by Kenneth Schermerhorn from the Nashville Symphony
Orchestra, but won't be the Goldsmith programme. Instead it will feature a
selection of film music from Hollywood greats mainly John Williams? But may
include some Goldsmith works.

Goldsmith
Cancels US/UK Concert Dates - Further Update
Jerry Goldsmith has now had to cancel all his
currently scheduled concert dates in the US and UK on health
grounds following on from issues with the second part of his
Appendix op. Goldsmith has been advised by his doctors, after
having tests, not to travel. However, the composer is fine and
any health concerns are not life threatening. He continues his
scoring duties on Phil Alden Robinson's up and coming summer
thriller - The Sum Of All Fears, with score recording
now scheduled for April.
All scheduled concerts are still going ahead with guest conductors
being sort for all venues. However, exact details are changing
daily and for the time being are unconfirmed including news that
Elmer Bernstein will be performing a replacement program of his
own music on the Glasgow date.
