MacArthur 2 CD Set From Intrada!
Intrada
present the premiere release of the film soundtrack recording of the 1977 War
drama MacArthur featuring Gregory Peck in the title role. The film
focussed on the latter stages and aftermath of WW2 as well as the Korean War.
At the time Jerry Goldsmith surprised many by accepting the project after his
acclaimed work on the 1970 masterpiece Patton but the composer was inspired to write a
completely new identity for the general, still managing to capture the essence
of the man but most importantly deliver another rousing military theme. The film
features very little action, focussing on the drama of the events, with
Goldsmith providing the
sensitivity of many of the key moments alongside brief action sequences and tension,
with
arrangements of his rousing theme never far away.
The 1977 MCA LP album was released on CD by Varese way back in 1990. Not only
long out of print but fans were missing the actual film soundtrack. Now
for the first time you can enjoy a complete presentation, courtesy of the
brilliant Intrada label.
The two CD set features complete the film soundtrack, alternates, source music and a
stunning re-mastered presentation of the album with a dramatic improvement in
the sound stage. Add notes by Jeff Bond and audio
restoration from Chris Malone and you have a wonderful end of year Goldsmith
treat.

Kickstarter and Stretch Goal Achieved!
Well done Jerry
Goldsmith fans as they achieve the funding for Leigh Phillips' final recordings
for the General Electric Theater, as well as a bonus stretch goal score -
Autumn Love, which was a set of library cues that have appeared in the
Twilight Zone and The Fugitive TV shows, and maybe other productions
of the time. It's a beautiful score that's the perfect addition. The scores were
recorded in early December. We wait for Leigh to announce their release,
presumably sometime in January 24.

The General Electric Theater JG Scores - The Final Kickstarter!
Hot on the heels of
The Last Dance release, Leigh Phillips launches his most ambitious
Kickstarter to date.
From Leigh
Phillips..
As with the previous campaigns, we will be recording two highly contrasting
scores. Firstly, "My Dark Days"; a two part story, whose espionage-driven plot
elicits a dark and dramatic atmospheric score from the composer, written for an
ensemble of low strings, wind, brass, and percussion.
Secondly (and the final score in this recording series) is "The Committeeman".
For this introspective tale, written by Joseph Stefano (of Psycho fame!)
Goldsmith provides a gentle and plaintive score for an ensemble of strings and
guitar…or, more specifically, a tiple. This is another example of a “lost
episode”; however, although we don't have access to the moving image, we do have
Goldsmith's handwritten charts. So, much like the situation with "Sarah's
Laughter", "Hitler’s Secret", and "The Last Dance", if we succeed in recording
this score, it will be the first time the music has been heard in over sixty
years! Below is a demo of one of the already-reconstructed cues.
As before, the intention is to record both scores (across two sessions) with an
ensemble of musicians from The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, in Smecky
Music Studios, with multiple Grammy Award-winning engineer Jan Holzner. The
music will be accompanied by detailed liner notes by Yavar Moradi (co-host of
The Goldsmith Odyssey podcast) and will feature cover art by Joe Sikoryak.
Any and all support is welcomed in this final push to record and preserve these
wonderful scores from a true master craftsman.
Bonus recording announced for a Kickstarter stretch goal! Autumn Love is
a beautiful a selection of library cues that Goldsmith wrote that have featured
in the TV series' Twilight Zone and The Fugitive.

Leigh Phillips Records New Goldsmith General Electric Theater Score - Last
Dance!
Leigh Phillips has
completed his new recording, with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, for
the Jerry Goldsmith score to another rare General Electric Theater
episode called The Last Dance. The episode has long been lost so nobody
knew what this really sounded like until Leigh was able to transcribe the
original preserved score and produce this new recording at the Smecky Studios.
The session was
presented as a “thank you” to backers of previous “Goldsmith at The GE Theater”
Kickstarter campaigns, and for supporters of The Jerry Goldsmith Companion:
Celebrating A Musical Legend.
The recording should be available at the end of September from Leigh's store and the
usual Digital Music services.
City Hall - Deluxe Edition CD From Varese CD Club
Varese
Sarabande announce a newly expanded presentation of Jerry Goldsmith's score for
the 1996 political thriller set in New York focussing on the aftermath of an

event.
Goldsmith provided a dramatic orchestral score and a nod to Gershwin for his
percussion led main theme. The low key drama features measured support as well
as moments of suspense.
The new version
features the film presentations of the score, a series of alternates as well as

Jerry Goldsmith Companion Books - Publisher Update!
At long last, THE JERRY
GOLDSMITH COMPANION: VOLUMES 1 and 2 are on the launching pad and our
Kickstarter campaign is set to go live within a matter of days.
As such, we paid close attention to your comments and concerns and opted to
reformat both books from cover to cover. This allowed us to reconfigure our
original price structures, thereby making the books more affordable for
everyone.
Readers may now choose between digital, softbound, hardbound and signed editions
with prices ranging from $35 to $95 for both books together. The revised layouts
also allowed us to entertain optional shipping methods, making them vastly more
affordable to every reader in every country.
Too, the delay gave our author the opportunity to add additional materials and
visuals, including a priceless new quote from director George Miller on working
with Goldsmith on his NIGHTMARE AT 20,000 FEET episode of TWILIGHT ZONE - THE
MOVIE, gifted to us by Tim Greiving, one of our most generous benefactors.
Moving forward, we urge everyone to join our Facebook Group for a steady stream
of up-to-the-minute updates and background info on the creation of the books,
not only from Jeff Bond, but also from numerous key participants.

As always, we appreciate your patience and support as we’ve charted this long
and complicated road. As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait and
in the case of THE JERRY GOLDSMITH COMPANION, you are in for a bounty of riches.
