I remember years
ago when I was looking for a composer to do The Russia House
I listened to the music of various composers in the US, Europe
and Australia and met with many of them. Many of them were talented
but they all have a signature in their writing. At the same time,
it was obvious to me the most inventive and apt scores that I
really responded to were all done by one man, Jerry Goldsmith.
His scores were extremely varied, tailored
to perfectly suit, support and enhance the films they were created
for from Patton, Hoosiers, Under Fire and
Chinatown (ingenious work). So Jerry was the obvious choice
for me and I was really thrilled when he agreed to work with
me. Since then we have had a most fruitful and fulfilling association.
The evidence is there, the man is a master.
